Transfers happened, and Elder Glenn left to go to Peoria and I got Elder Broby, he is awesome.
On the one day this week that we woke up to snow and single-digit temperatures, we had to go help this lady move out of an old trailer and into an apartment. When we rolled up to her trailer, we went inside and found that nothing was packed up at all. So we helped her determine what she was going to throw away and what she was going to keep, and we packed up the stuff she wanted. In the kitchen, she pointed to a set of cabinets and told me i could throw it all away. I opened up the cabinets and found something that I thought only existed in Indiana Jones movies & Nightmares: Every surface of the inside of the cabinet was covered with cockroaches, earwigs, or other nasty bugs. I was disheartened. After throwing all of that away and inspecting myself several times for bugs, I turned my attention to her sink full of dirty dishes. I started pouring out all of the mystery liquids in the bowls and glasses and found that not only were they full of old milk and stuff, but also of more bugs. I was frightened. We ended up finishing the move, and all went well.
Other than that it was a pretty good week. We had stake conference and Elder Devries came and spoke to us. He talked about how before he joined the church, he was determined to stay in whatever faith he had been a part of. However, he met a less active member of the church who simply told him "I know my church is true" and it totally changed the course of his life. He felt the spirit, went to church, got baptized, went on a mission, got sealed in the temple, had tons of kids who also went on missions, became a mission president, and then became a general authority and blesses all kinds of lives. You all can have that kind of impact on someones lives! Its such a blessing.
I also saw a familiar face at stake conference. Way back in Ottumwa over a year ago, I gave a blessing to a kindergarten age son of an african recent convert before he started the school year. They are really awesome. I left ottumwa, and then over a year later I saw them at stake conference. I went up to say hello, expecting her not to remember me, and right when she saw me she recognized me and yelled "Elder Thomas!" Its a good feeling when people dont have to look at your tag to remember your name haha, and she and I talked for a while. That was really cool, I was thankful for that.
